The Era Of Liquid Lipsticks | Sleek Matte Me 'Birthday Suit'

I think it's safe to say liquid lipsticks are having a huge moment right now. Everyone is talking about them, every brand is bringing out some sort of product and every makeup lover out there wants to give it a try. Including me, obviously! There are amazing high-end brands which brought out great liquid lipsticks, such as the Anastasia ones or the Kat Von D. ones, but for a liquid lipstick newbie like myself and many others, paying that much for something you're not sure you're gonna love is not an easy thing to do. That's why, we can thank the Drugstore Gods for giving us some cheaper alternatives to make sure we're on board with the whole concept, like Sleek 'Matte Me' liquid lipsticks and their beautiful trendy shades.

Let's talk packaging first and get that out of the way. It's standard. Plastic tube with a classic applicator, hugs the lips perfectly and doesn't leak. Travel friendly and cute looking.

There are 6 shades available and I'd say it's a pretty good range of nudes and bolder shades for everyone's taste. However, the most iconic 'Kylie Jenner' style shade has to be 'Birthday Suit', a lovely pinky nude, with some brown and mauve undertones. I can't even tell you how many times I've tried to get my hand on this shade which seems to be so popular that it's out of stock 90% of the time. Now that I have it, I can say I understand why.

The application process is a bit tricky if you're not used to liquid lipsticks. I usually line my lips first, just to make sure I get the shape right, but you don't have to do it, if you're really careful with the lipstick. I would recommend wiping out the excess product that comes out on the applicator as it can make you apply a thicker layer that you'd necessary want to. One coat is enough in my opinion, as long as you make sure it's all even. The consistency is a perfect combination between creamy and liquidy. It takes a few second to dry and than it sets completely matte. The color also get a little bit darker as it sets, so at the end of the day you end up with a darker shade than you first applied in the morning. That's not something that bothers me, personally, but you might wanna remember that anyway.

They feel pretty comfortable on the lips, especially in the first couple of hours. They're not sticky at all, which is a major plus in my book, and they're not too drying or clinging to dry patches either. However, as the hours go by, if your lips aren't exfoliated really well, it can get a big dry on the inside part of the lips. For me, that's when I feel like licking my lips to bring some moisture back into them and when that inner part starts to fade a little bit. If this happens, I find that you can reapply it and it doesn't make things worse. It doesn't solve the dryness problem either but the color is back and the feeling is definitely bearable. In conclusion, the staying power is great and it can last a whole day if you exfoliate. Otherwise, it will last everywhere except for the inner part of your lips, where it usually starts to fade after 4/5 hours.

For the price and the accessibility, I'd say it's a pretty decent liquid lipstick, especially for a beginner. It's pretty easy to apply, it's fairly comfortable on the lips and it stays on for a pretty long time. It's not the perfect product, especially if you're used to creamy fool-proof lipstick, but it gets the job done and it can definitely compete with more expensive liquid lipsticks in terms of the quality. So it's a winner in my book!

  5. This lipstick sounds lovely especially considering the price! Personally I'd probably give it a miss - I can't do with lipsticks that are even slightly drying, my lips can't handle that at all! x I do love the shade you picked. :) <3

  7. I have very dry lips so liquid matte lipsticks are not exactly the best choice for me. I tend to avoid them!

  9. Truthfully I may not be the biggest fan of the Kylie Jenner lip trend thing that's been popular recently, however I do find that the nude lip look is really pretty. This color is so gorgeous! I can see why it's sold out. I haven't tried liquid lipsticks yet, but I'm tempted to. I don't like high maintenance lip products. Good to hear that this has nice staying power. great review!

  13. What a gorgeous shade, I do like a pink/brown liquid lipstick! I think that I'd love this shade, so I really want to go and test it out now. Let's hope it's in stock, as I know we're all still obsessing over the Kylie colours lol. My favourite liquid lipstick at the moment is Pure Hollywood from Anastasia Beverly Hills. But I do want to try out the Revlon ones too, as I haven't tried any from the Drugstore yet. Lovely post babe and your photos are so pretty too.:D

  14. I think liquid lipsticks are tricky to begin with, but when used correctly, they are beautiful. Birthday Suit looks likes a great dupe for a Kylie Lip Kit, the colour is gorgeous and so pigmented! I need to try that liquid lipstick but I just bought Kat Von D's Lolita soo...I may have to wait for my next pay check hahaha <3

  17. I don't really know where to start with liquid lipsticks haha! I didn't think Sleek did any, so this was interesting. I can't normally pull off nude shades, and most liquid lipsticks seem to be light/beige pinks, but I think this sort of shade is much more wearable for me. I'll definitely have a look in my local drugstore :)
